You’ll feel the power of Gorgon’s hoof!

Gorgon is the last member of the Inhuman Royal Court, and is the “Luke Cage” to Karnak’s “Iron Fist”.

After Karnak, he has a lot to live up to. The first big impressive thing is another 3 threat! We really have a lot of roster options now!

He has 4 physical defence, which is great, and otherwise a very normal 3 threat stat-line with a little health boost. Medium move on a small base. He loses one health on the back (6/5)

Abilities

His builder is Mace Strike, a range 2, 5 dice, physical attack. It Stuns on a Wild. I am very happy to finally have a way to Stun in-faction (without Whisper). Judgement is good, but Stun really locks a character’s power down. This is a very solid attack for a 3 threat.

He also has Hoof Quake, a 0 cost, range 3 Energy Beam Attack. It’s only 4 dice, but it Shocks on a Wild, and with inbuilt Inhuman rerolls it has a good chance of landing some damage and Shocking important targets. Finally! A Shock in-faction!

God Crusher is his spender. For 4 power he has a range 3, 8 dice Physical Attack. Good range, good number of damage dice, and even has a Stagger on a wild. It also has an unconditional size 4 Throw.

Frankly I would pay 3 power for a size 4 Throw on this character, so the 8 dice and possible Stagger are absolute value.

With the combination of Shock, Stun & Stagger we have all the things the Inhumans were missing from their early control game.

Next we have Charge! A classic and very good ability. Action compression with solid attacks and good conditions is a great combo.

You’re Going To Have To Deal With Me First is a 2 power Taunt. If the Attacker is within Range 2, Gorgon can become the new target regardless of LOS or Range. So once he has gotten into the middle, Stunned the primary target, and beamed everyone else, he starts redirecting key attacks to himself whilst the rest of your team goes to work.

The icing on this little hairy cupcake is the Inhuman reroll and the Immunity to Poison.

Strategy

Gorgon is a 3 threat star. Unlike Karnak he won’t be punching Thanos into oblivion or surviving Hulk builders, but he will be putting out conditions that make your opponents do less damage and generate less power, before soaking up critical attacks and coming back with a very efficient spender.

Turn 1, under Black Bolt, you can get the charge online and aggressively attack the midline.

Otherwise you pick your lane and hold a Secure, waiting for Turn 2 when you can Charge, Strike and Quake (or double Strike for more power) to disrupt the opponent’s team.

Now he should be amidst a brawl whilst the rest of your team goes to work. Your opponent is now forced with the choice to eliminate Gorgon whilst you claim VPs/attack priority targets, or to try and target vulnerable models, which will likely end up redirected to Gorgon. They will likely have to waste activations moving away or killing Gorgon, allowing early momentum.

Even when they do attack, you hopefully have Shocked them for less attack dice, and may have even Stunned them for less power gain. Overall their damage capacity drops. If they are hitting Gorgon, he has Inhuman rerolls and good defences. Although he has no damage reduction, he should be surviving two or three hits.

Once flipped he should come back with enough power for at least one big spender, perhaps two.

He is at his best on the front line, keeping eyes off your back line. Charging wherever he is needed and throwing out conditions like candy.

For example, in a wide team under Maximus, pressuring anyone who has the range/movement to attack Max. Or on the opposite flank to Black Bolt, keeping his allies safe. Or ahead of Gladiator, preventing his confidence from being dropped.

Overall

Gorgon brings every condition we were missing, attached to good attacks. He is not as tough as Luke Cage, but his rerolls, defences, and conditions should add more toughness than your average 3 threat.

He also brings a low threat front-line bodyguard at a time when players are sceptical of Maximus’s survivability. Allowing us to move fully away from Black Bolt should we so wish.

If nothing else, put him under Black Bolt and just keep charging and using the spender until your opponent is sick of it.
